Heat

Image
Short one today.  It’s hot and breathless today, and I spent most of the day in bed because I felt so… off.  My blood pressure is in the 90s again, which is nice, but it feels like I’m trying to breathe through a small reed underwater… My support worker made me a small supper, because I otherwise probably would not have eaten anything today; it’s too hot to even contemplate cooking!  Jerry is on my feet, generating lots of heat, but it’s fine.  Oddly enough, I feel cold although it’s 30C.  Don is also struggling to move (pain in his legs) and to breathe… I’m honestly starting to worry about getting through the summer if it’s going to be much hotter than this! At this point, I’m asking for special prayers for Aunt Peggy who was rushed off to the hospital this morning.  Here’s hoping that it’s not serious and that she’s back home again soon, and up to her normal self. Last night I watched an Elton John concert, which I enjoyed.  His voice has changed ove...

Music

I’m watching the Tony awards on TV, and mostly enjoying the production.  It’s one of those fun shows that let me pretend that I’m living in a musical if I hold on to my suspension of disbelief 😊for a few more minutes!  I love real theatre, and I’m saddened that — like so many things — it’s been somewhat restricted as I keep myself safe and there are so many, many closures.  I do miss  going to the theatre.  I’ll leave it there, since the list of things that I miss because of covid is long!!  I gathered some energy today and cooked a shrimp and mushroom Alfredo (pictured) and much to my irritation, I had to sit a lot while I did the things I needed to do to be able to cook, which is beyond frustrating.  I’ll stop talking now.  The list is too long to repeat here.  Just assume that I’m frustrated a lot, even though I have been warned to be kind to myself.  I think that Jerry has been paying more attention than I have, since he’s ap...

Deus nolens exitus

Today was another painful day.  I had a lot of difficulty falling asleep-I was awake until 3am, then I was awake again at 5am. The result of course, was that I was drowsing off in the middle of the day, and falling asleep in my chair. Not the most comfortable way to nap!  Although, as my dad pointed out-if you can sleep in a position, then it's at least temporarily comfortable, so… I need to remember that the surgery itself was very successful. I'm able to walk again, and I was at real risk of being paralyzed if I did nothing.  The challenge is really that I now have a torn tendon, which is dreadfully painful so it's a wholly different issue. It would be better if I did not have that issue but it's one of those things, I guess. Let's be honest-I'm frustrated with the level of pain I've been dealing with this week. It feels like all I've been talking about is the hurt in my back, and I'm fed up with it. Between that and my insomnia, I feel like a mise...

The envelope, please...

Thanks for playing!  I’m not surprised, but my sister Helga was able to identify all of the Sesame Street  references rapidly!  Lynne wins, with a total of 35/59 correct answers, and I’ve already sent something to her in the post.  It should arrive during the week, so I wait for her reaction! (I expect her to call me a “cheeky brat” at the very least.) I enjoy finding quotes like these, so I’m likely to continue finding inspiration from songs, or perhaps books or poetry.  We’ll see... in the next round! Although this is the summary of a few years’ blogging, so it might be a while.   Blog title Song  Artist Whole heap of zing Red red wine UB40 The essence of all As gentle as silence Catholic hymn Dreaming of bigger things Thunder Imagine Dragons  The whole year through Happy new year  Kelwyn Hutcheon O res mirabilis Panis angelicus  Catholic hymn Try to bridge the emptiness Same auld lang syne Dan Fogelberg Christmas changes too Where are...

Game time

I thought that I’d make a change today and set up a game... let’s see how many of these you can solve! The following list is titles of blog posts (you can verify them on the main page) that are taken from various song lyrics.  The songs are a mixture of pop music (1940s-2010), songs from Sesame Street, hymns and calypsos.  All except one are English language (marked with an *)  in general, the phrase is not the title of the song...  Full marks for identifying the song and the artist.  Winner will get something in the mail from me   I look forward to seeing your responses.  I’ll publish the complete list on February 7.  Play on! Title Whole heap of zing The essence of all Dreaming of bigger things The whole year through O res mirabilis Try to bridge the emptiness Christmas changes too You can read me anything And a lots of work to be done It wasn’t me...
