Outsmarted

I tried to get Jerry to wear his coat this morning.  We got out with it, then he put his tiny head down and sulked.  Then this evening he flatly refused to get in.  I also had vain hopes of getting him into little boots, but that is still just a fantasy, not the real thing!  He still pulls off the first one when I’m putting on the second, and suddenly seems to have about a dozen feet.  The down side is that his feet get cold and he’ll hop on 2 feet so I pick him up and carry him.  I try my best to keep him from getting too cold, but he likes being outside and will pull hard to stay out until he’s cold.  This is when I’m sorry that I don’t have a back yard for him to run about in!  Although he’d probably want a revolving door and his personal servant on standby for his multiple entries.  Don is OK today, and is currently catching up on his real murders addiction… I took a nap this afternoon since I could barely keep my eyes open.  Jerry complained at the door until I let him in, then he jumped on the bed like a jackrabbit on a trampoline and then settled in to kick my tummy… at least I got some sleep.

Note to self:  don’t try to outsmart people.  I’d bid on some items in a church auction, and used the automated bidding feature to set a maximum bid.  I expected that others would jump in and send the prices up, and my maximum bid was about 40% below the retail value of the items.  I bid on 4 things, including one that had 2 items (2 of the same offering) on the first day of the auction, knowing that bidding usually gets more energetic near the end.  Of the 4 items, I was interested in maybe 1, and I’d just bid on the others to start them off.  Well, guess what?  I wound up winning the most expensive item — a pair of binoculars — and was thankfully outbid on everything else.  So I’ll need to collect them this week, and then think about what to do with them!  I can rationalize it that I got a $300 pair of binoculars for $110… but still… what will I do with them?  Silly me.  I really should have not upped my original bid when I was outbid…  Oh well, at least it’s in support of a good cause.

In other fun and exciting news, my elder niece competed with her school choir — my alma mater — and they won in their category.  Auntie is, unsurprisingly, very proud and happy for her, doubly so since it’s her graduation in June, so she won’t be able to compete with them again next year, and they’d missed the last couple of years due to the pandemic.  I did tell her that next year she can join the university choir, which has been doing brilliantly for years and is currently led by my high school BFF, so she’ll have company.  I’m unabashedly encouraging her to try new things and get involved with different groups to make friends, especially since so much of their socialization has been interrupted.

Jerry is letting me know that he feels neglected and abandoned and needs to be cuddled.  I’ll go take my nighttime meds and play with the dog before I go in to get some sleep.  I’m glad that I was able to nap this afternoon, but I can still use some sleep.  I realized that while it’s hard for me to get up in the morning, once I’m up and moving I feel better; at least until the early afternoon when I’m very dozy.  That’s all for tonight, good night!
