Family time

Fair warning… the next few weeks will be full of stories about the small people and what we’re doing.  They’ll all be tagged “family” so you’ll know.  That will definitely be my focus, so consider yourself advised!  My boys are both fine, and are managing without me, although I admit that I do miss them (and they me) and we talk about 5 times a day.  I’m fairly sure that Don is as happy as a “pig in mud” or perhaps a kid in a candy store, as there’s nobody there to tell him to turn the volume down to a dull roar instead of having the TV set to stadium alert level, or that he needs to eat actual food, and not just cakes, cookies, pies, chocolate… and he can watch 20 hours of baseball or football (American or Canadian) per day or all the true crime and prank shows that he can find instead of being interrupted by cozy mysteries or reruns of detective shows and all those other things.  I’m teasing, of course, since we do talk frequently, and text, and all those other communication steps that we go through.  Jerry is alternating between looking for me at home and ignoring me on the phone when we’re video chatting.  It does feel odd sleeping without a small dog trying to burrow under me but it’s only for a short time.

My sleep is still erratic, even when (as I did last night) I take meds to help.  All that seemed to accomplish was me waking up with a very dry mouth and draining a 1L bottle of water overnight!  My sister has been cooking for me, so there are regular meals, although I’m still eating less than a 3-year-old!  He ate a full cob of corn this afternoon, I managed about 3/4; he had the better part of a pork chop and I didn’t.  I know it’s not a contest, but still… according to my scale, I’ve lost another 3kg (Don says the scale has to be wrong) but my smallest clothes hang off me.  I’ll add a small whine about my back, which gets tired easily, and I’m finding that I can’t sit for long on wooden seats as that adds another layer of discomfort.  I’m searching for a couple of seat cushions to help and perhaps a cervical pillow to better support my neck.

As you can see, the clothes were completed and delivered, and they like them.  My nephew’s vest is snug; I was afraid of that, but if it were of a more stretchy yarn it would have been more comfortable.  My niece was very excited with her dress, and seems to like it.  Apparently it looks like a Tinker Bell fairy dress, so it’s accepted.  She also likes that it’s the only one in the world like it — she is thrilled that it’s got so many pinks!  She’s very happy that I’m here, and has been showing me all the new things she got in preparation for starting kindergarten after Labour Day (September 4.)  Today we went for a drive — the weather was postcard perfect and comfortable, not humid or anything — and stopped at a play area that they enjoy where there’s a small zoo / animal shelter.  She walked me to the horses enclosure and said, “Auntie these are the horses Frankie and Brownie.  Horsies, this is Auntie Sonja, say hello to her!”  (I struggled not to laugh)  My nephew ran around the grounds and then came to me to give me a hug.  It was a fun, but tiring (for me and the other adults) afternoon.  We got home, had dinner and are now playing CandyLand before bedtime.

I’ve had my dinner, and my meds — I’ve learned why they don’t want food with the pills!  — I accidentally ate a piece of chocolate about 15 minutes after taking the meds, and my tummy went into revolt.  🤢  I won’t make that mistake again!!  It’s my turn to spin in the game, which my niece has already won decisively so I’m playing for fourth LOL (we let the kids win sometimes before bed so they’re quieter)  Apparently my niece is over her Frozen phase and is instead into Misty Copeland.  My nephew is still fanatical about construction vehicles and I spy so I’m still learning about vehicles.  Good night!
