Tuesday

Another fairly mild day today, although it was more humid than the last few days.  Oddly enough, the weather report noted that it felt close to 28C, but I found that I felt chilly for parts of the afternoon; go figure…  I’m currently wrapped in a shawl to get over the coolness of the day, but the weather reports it as fairly warm.  I’ll just assume that I feel cooler because I’m high up.  That, or else I’ve caught something, but I don’t feel sick so it’s not that.  I was on the phone for a while today, so that meant that I was turned into a dog bed and that the tiny dictator was working hard to try to knock things out of my hands and off my lap; he was evicted, and reluctantly went over to cuddle Don.  He’s feeling less that great, as his exertions on the weekend are catching up to him.  I wish there was something that I could do to prevent that, but there isn’t really.

I’d really like an uninterrupted night’s sleep, so I don’t wake up several times for no reason and then am tired during the day.  I’m at a point where I’m heading in early in hopes of getting some extra sleep, but it doesn’t seem to help, even when I am not reading before I go to sleep.

The dress is coming along; I’m  working on the skirt which is the lengthy, repetitive (frankly, boring) part.  I’ve set the pattern, so that’s easier — I just follow along mindlessly stitching.  It should be done by Friday, all else being equal.  I’m starting to see the gradation of colours, I’m both impressed and frustrated at how much I was able to crochet with the first shade!  I looked at the ball and thought, “Oh, I probably only need 1,” but the pattern calls for 1 ball and about 20% of a second, unless I choose to make it very short, which I don’t think will be practical if I’d like her to have more than one season wearing it!  I’m guessing that she’s looking forward to school, but we haven’t had a chance to discuss yet.  My elder niece is waiting on her results and the final acceptance from the university— meanwhile, she’s focused on learning to drive (road test is coming quickly) and trying to think about part time jobs.  The university is less flexible on the subject of working students than I’ve become accustomed to seeing here, so that’s an interesting challenge.  There aren’t many on-campus jobs available, and most off-campus ones don’t seem to be open to supporting students.  That’s one of those things that’s very different here, and for which I’m pleased — more of a chance to develop real world experience and increase independence in students.

I’m dozing off while I’m sitting here, so I think that I’ll listen to my body and head in to get some sleep early tonight.  Wish me luck!  Good night
