Grateful

I just got home after a lovely evening with friends as we celebrated10 years post diagnosis.  We were a small group - 8 people - and a call to another friend in Vancouver.  Many thanks to Jules and Rob for opening their home to us, and to everyone else for the delicious food and brilliant company. It was so wonderful to see everyone, and more that we got time to chat a bit. I did not take Jerry with me, of course, but I was playing with another dog, so I'm being treated with suspicion by my little dictator.  He greeted me at the door with great enthusiasm, but that turned into sulks when I got in. Both boys were watching football and were happy for the afternoon.   I came home to them both happily with the TV on and a pile of dirty dishes in the sink!

I spoke about this anniversary several times in the past month or so; I’m very thankful that it’s here and that we were able to spend some time (like 3 minutes) talking about how happy we all are to be together for this.  The rest of the time we talked about shows to watch, renovations, inflation, EVs compared to hybrids and regular cars, Christmas decorations, kids, pets… all the things people discuss when they’re together.  I can’t communicate how wonderful that is, instead of a focus on health, treatments, and so on.  There were times when I thought that small talk — the kind of thing we were doing tonight — was a waste of valuable time, but I’ve come to learn that it isn’t.  It’s a way for people to get to know each other and then we can talk about other, sometimes more personal things.  One topic that comes up is 'how did you meet?" it's always interesting where and how people meet- at work; church; dinners, courses...I always think that “through a friend" is one of the best.

I’m tired now, and my keyboard is misbehaving, so I’ll just wrap up now  and wish you all a good night!
