Holy Innocents

Two days of rain, slippery roads and general sadness in the weather… that led to the need to roll up into a roti and get some extra sleep.  I dozed off on myself yesterday around 5, and woke up after 8, so it’s clear that I needed that nap!  Today I was awake early (pre-am appointment) and by 11 I was out.  I’m more alert now, which is good, but I really needed that extra nap.  While I think I slept well, it seems that I was awake off and on during the night, so that interfered with my rest.  Jerry is on my toes chewing on his new toy.  It’s surprisingly mostly intact, although he’s working on eating the fabric — I don’t understand his attachment to that!  There are several hockey tournaments underway at the moment, plus some “regular” games, and football, so as you can imagine, I have limited TV time!  I’m recording some shows to watch when I have a moment, which will probably be after the new year, since the tournaments end then — but then the new women’s professional hockey league launches…

I’m still happy to report that I’m hungry and eating!  I was looking forward to my ham-and-egg omelette for breakfast this morning (it was GOOD!!) and I ate every crumb.  I’m pleasant surprised at how good the applewood smoked variety is… I usually get hickory, but this is really delicious.  I’ve also got one more meal of pelau, which I’ll probably eat tomorrow.  My worker is back out — YAY! — she’s over her attack of covid and is no longer contagious, so that’s great.  She’s still a little weaker, and says that her appetite hasn’t returned yet, something I fully understand.  She’s due back tomorrow, and we have some cooking to do.

I’m super excited!  My sister and her family are about 2 hours away!  They called to ask if they could come for a visit, and I immediately said, “yes!!”  They will be at a hotel — I don’t have the room for 4 of them, sadly — but I’ll get to see them and we’ll spend a little time together.  They’re here until Saturday, and we’re not sure if Auntie or kids are more excited about this!  You therefore get an early update while I’m waiting for them to arrive and then they’ll head to the hotel.  At the moment, the plan is that I’ll spend the day with them tomorrow, and we go on from there.  There’s a pretty good chance that I won’t update tomorrow but we’ll see.

I was reminded that when we were children on this day there would be a special Mass for children, where we’d take our toys to be blessed after we’d heard about the death of the Innocents — the children who were killed by Herod when he was searching for “the King of the Jews” It’s a lovely memory for me, that we’d all be there, dressed up and looking adorable, clutching a new doll or bear where we’d sing all the children’s carols — Away in a Manger being a particular favourite.  Those innocent days make me smile now, as I remember the smiles and the sunshine.

I’ll sign off now, and go eat something; I’m hungry again!!  Hopefully I’ve gained a bit of weight after this and I admit that I feel so much more like myself than I have for a bit.  I really like this, I have a bit more energy and things are improved, so all good.  I’ll have to disturb the puppy, but he’ll forgive me, I hope!  Good night!
